For thousands of years, Eastern knowledge has been passed from one generation to another through the system of discipleship. A venerated Master would accept suitable individuals at a young age as his disciples, and informally through the years, pass on his knowledge and skills to his disciples. His disciples in turn, would take on their own disciples, as a means to perpetuate knowledge or skills.
This system served the purpose of restricting the transfer of knowledge to only worthy honourable individuals and ensuring that outsiders or Westerners would not have access to thousands of years of Eastern knowledge, learning and research.
However, the disciple system has also resulted in Chinese Metaphysics and Classical Studies lacking systematic teaching methods. Knowledge garnered over the years has not been accumulated in a concise, systematic manner, but scattered amongst practitioners, each practicing their knowledge, art and science, in isolation. The disciple system, out of place in today’s modern world, endangers the advancement of these classical fields that continue to have great relevance and application today.
At the Mastery Academy, our Mission is to bring Eastern Classical knowledge in the fields of metaphysics, medical sciences and the arts to the world. These Classical teachings and knowledge, previously shrouded in secrecy and passed on only through the discipleship system, are adapted into structured learning, which can easily be understood, learnt and mastered.
