Water plays a fundamental role in Feng Shui - and indeed, it appears that any enthusiast of Feng Shui, whether beginner or professional, is aware of its significance. The reason for its importance is that, in essence, Water acts as a vessel for Qi. Because of its fast-moving, 'Yang' nature, Water can transport or direct Qi toward a particular area, for a particular purpose. But the common problem today is that many people labour under the misconception that any sort of Water formula or method will be able to help them - primarily when it comes to money matters and wealth issues - and as a result, don't pay enough attention to its negative capabilities. Precisely because of its potency, Water also possesses certain negative effects and if used incorrectly or channeled improperly, can cause many catastrophic and ruinous outcomes Water Feng Shui, when applied correctly, can help direct good Qi into and excrete bad Qi from the property.
So it's very important that if one were to use a Water method or formula, one would use the correct kind, and in its proper context. This book talks about a particular system derived from the San Yuan school of Feng Shui - the San Yuan Dragon Gate Eight Formations Water Method. There are various Water methods even under the San Yuan system alone, just as there are many kinds of schools in Feng Shui. But the most popular system under the San Yuan school comes from the Qian Kun Guo Bao 乾坤國寶 (which means Heaven and Earth National Treasure), a classic text supposedly written by Grandmaster Yang Yun Song which encompasses these Dragon Gate Eight Formation Water methods.
Today, the San Yuan Dragon Gate Eight Formations Water Method system is widely practiced all over the world, especially in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It is definitely not the foremost system of water methods, but it is one of the more commonly acceptable ones because of the amount of positive results it has managed to bring about. These positive outcomes along with it's simple calculation have helped cement it as one of the more popular and widely used systems.
As its title suggests, there are Eight Formations used in this system, but within the Eight Formations there are many more transformations within. This book is an attempt to illustrate the various transformations so that it can aid students and practitioners in their attempts to apply the methods to best effect. Although it was primarily designed to help students in the Mastery Academy's Feng Shui Mastery Series as a form of reference and study tool, teachers and students of any school also can use it as an easy reference of research material.
The book has been kept simple - there are only charts and structures available inside, with simple accompanying interpretations or analyses. I've also strived to retain most of the original technical terms and kept the formulas in their original form. This is precisely to enable the use of the book by students and practitioners of any school without conflict in modes or philosophies of teaching. Each teacher will have his or her own interpretation of a formula or method - it's not the case that we all often agree on those key issues. To that end, then, this book should be used under the guidance of a qualified teacher or mentor, who will help the beginner student make sense of the myriad charts and structures and allow you to effectively and correctly apply it for the best possible results. In addition, there is also the option of joining the Mastery Academy's Feng Shui Mastery Series to learn more.
As a final note, please don't let some of the texts and description of water formations in the book scare you. Although some may sound rather "gloomy" or even "detrimental", bear in mind that this is the way ancient texts were written. As this is a transliteration, I did not filter the 'scary' words. In most cases, they may not be so drastic in reality. Also, don't let my earlier warnings about Water methods scare you off from using it, but let it merely serve as a cautionary guideline against adopting a freewheeling and careless style when it comes to Feng Shui methods and applications. Used properly and correctly, these methods can have genuinely transformative results.
