Item Description
Joey begins the lesson by introducing the place of Mian Xiang in the general scheme and study of Chinese Metaphysics. Mian Xiang is one of the 5 Chinese Metaphysical Arts, which include:
- Mountain
- Medical
- Divination
- Destiny
- Physiognomy
Joey explains how Mian Xiang falls under the category of Physiognomy, which is a study based on the observation of appearances. Studying landform structures falls into the realm of Feng Shui, while observing a person's appearance falls under Mian Xiang, or Face Reading. While a major aspect of this involves, as the name suggests, study of the face, a big part of Mian Xiang also involves studying a person's demeanour.
While judging a person by their appearance is considered a cultural taboo sometimes, or even something that is politically incorrect, the fact remains that many of our first impressions of others are intuitively formed by our ability to make internal evaluations of that person's face, appearance, and demeanour. More often than not, these intuitive "first" impressions are often more accurate than we realise.
As part of a thorough introduction on Mian Xiang, Joey tells us how it uses specific techniques to systematically evaluate a person's characteristics, including the person's individual destiny path. The Chinese art of Mian Xiang has a long history, and its first known use was during the time of the Yellow Emperor some 2,700 years ago.
Joey also explores the question that often crops up with regards to Face Reading - does physically altering one's features (through surgery, for example), make a significant change in one's personality and destiny? The answer, as Joey explains, it's more complicated than a simple "yes or no."
Further on, Joey explains the four main areas you need to focus on in the study of Face Reading, while highlighting the key concepts - such as Face Regions, 12 Palaces, and the 100 Year Map. The lesson ends with an exhortation for students to practice by observing their own faces, and those of people close to them.
